First Boat Ride

Last Monday we went on Lakelyn’s first boat ride since being born.  I decided that the first boat ride was just going to be the 3 of us.  I wasn’t sure how Lakelyn was going to react so I didn’t want to invite others and make them listen to a screaming child.  To my surprise Lakelyn didn’t make one peep!  We had Lakelyn in her life jacket one other time and she was not a fan so I was surprised how well she did this time.  We put her in her life jacket and then sat her in her car seat, unbuckled of course!  She fell asleep a few times and at one point fussed for a few minutes but I think it’s because the buckle was on her nose.  Luke wake boarded and I drove the boat while Lakelyn sat right next to me.  After Luke was worn out he swam and put Lakleyn’s toes in the water.  I thought the water was cool so we didn’t get her fully wet.  I am really looking forward o a full summer of boating and summer play in the water!

Here are a few pictures from the first boat ride!

Mother's Day

My first official Mother's day, although I was technically a mother last year this time, I think of this as my first. I get to spend mother’s day with my daughter in my arms. Where has the time gone!?I remember this time last year I was 3 months pregnant and wondered how I was going to get through the summer and 6 more months of being pregnant. Time sure has flow by!

Now a year later, here I am with an almost 6 month old daughter. It makes me tear up thinking about how much life has changed and how blessed I truly am. Being a mom has been so much more than I ever expected.

Luke planned a wonderful Mothers day for me.  Lakelyn woke up at 6:15 am and so Luke got up with Lakelyn so that I could sleep in.  Little did I know they went shopping while I slept.  Luke did a great job of taking pictures to show me what they had been up to.

Here Lakelyn is all ready to go

Luke woke me up at 8:45 with breakfast in bed, blueberry waffles and toaster strudels.  We had talked about this the week before and I told him how I loved eating them as a kid.  Everything was delicious.  Then we put Lakelyn down for a nap and got ready for the day.  We woke Lakelyn up from her nap at 12:30 because she had been asleep since 9:20am!  First Luke took me to lunch at my favorite hibachi place in town. Lakelyn was such a good girl; she sat on my lap and watched the chef make lunch.

After lunch Luke took us to get snow cones, I love snow cones!!  Then after snow cones we went to Wal-Mart to get groceries.  Luke was going to take us to a pottery place to get Lakelyn's hand prints on something but I knew Lakelyn was getting tired and didn’t think she would make it through it.  The thought was very sweet and we will do it another day when we have more time and Lakelyn has had more rest.
Lakelyn rode in the grocery cart like a big girl for the first time.  She loved it!  She watched all the people walk by and loved having her hands on the handle bars.  She was way more content then being in her car seat in the grocery cart.

She was pooped!

I had the best Mothers day I could have ever imagined.  Luke put a lot of thought into the day and made it a very special day!

Weekend Update

These last 3 weeks have really flown by!  A recap:
April 18th- Lakelyn was getting the rest of her 4 month pictures done so I had already planned on taking a half day at work and going in late.  Lakelyn woke up with a really deep cough and so after pictures we had to go to the doctor.  Doctor told us she had bronchitis and needed to be put on an antibiotic for a week.  So my half day off turned into a whole day and since she was taking meds she couldn’t go back to daycare for 24hrs so then I had to split the next day with Luke.  We were going to break Lakelyn of the swaddle this day but since she didn’t feel well and wasn’t sleeping the best she got out of it for another week!
She looks pretty happy for waking up with Bronchitis!

April 22nd- Luke and I had tickets to the Tosh.O comedy show so Lakelyn got to spend the night with Grandma Vicky.  I felt horrible leaving her with my mom because I knew she wasn’t going to sleep well.  But of course my mom wanted her anyway and I knew she would be in good hands so I didn’t worry.  Luke and I had a great time at the show, went bowling after and then ate pizza and pretzels and then went to bed by midnight.  I was pooped!  We had a lot of fun and it was good to get out and be adults and have “us” time.   Of course when I called my mom the next day Lakelyn got up at 1:30 and didn’t go back to sleep until 4am!  Poor grandma and Lakelyn!

Lakelyn came home from Grandma’s with a new super cute outfit!

April  24th- Lakelyn was beginning to feel better but her sleeping was all screwed up from being sick.  I got up with her at 12am, I changed her diaper, feed her and laid her back in bed.  2 minutes later she woke up, I bounced and rocked and shushed until my mouth hurt, walked the house 5,346 thousand times, got her to sleep, laid her down, walked out and wahh!! Started crying again! Luke got up at 2 am and said he would take a turn. He bounced and did everything else I did and she screamed.  Here is the thing with Lakelyn, you would think all the bouncing and rocking would sooth her, nope she has always cried and then fell asleep. So after 30 min I went in and told Luke it was time to sleep train. If she was going to cry no matter what then what was the point of us holding her and her crying. I told him that it was best to start it now or else she was going to do this at the lake the next weekend we had planned. He agreed. So we made sure she wasn't hungry, changed her diaper, put her in her sleep sack, not swaddled, got her calm and put her in her bed. I put her on her back, she rolled to her tummy, I rolled her to her back, she looked like she was trying to fly away, and she rolled to her tummy again so I left her. 45 minutes later she was out and not a peep from her all night. It was the longest 45 min of my life. But Luke and I watched TV until after 3am and then fell asleep when we knew she was okay.
April 25th- Lakelyn only cried 30 min before falling asleep.
April 26th- Lakelyn only cried 15 min before falling asleep.
April 27th-29th- We went to the lake with Luke's family for his mother’s birthday.  We had a good time and got to catch up with his brother and sister and their kids. Lakelyn slept the whole way down to the lake, that's 4 hrs!, when we got there we changed her and put her in bed. She only fussed 5 min and was out! She slept until 5:30am; we played for an hour and then back down for a nap! She fussed for about 10 min and passed out! She slept till 830 then was up for the day. We put her back down at 10am, fused for 10 min then fell asleep and stay asleep until I woke her up at noon. I was so afraid naps weren't going to go well but she did great! She was up until 2pm and then back down for another nap which I had to wake her up for again at 4pm. Then she was up until 7 and then down for the night. I never thought I would be a mom who did CIO (cry it out) but it works! I was so happy and relieved to have a happy baby who I didn't have to fight to get to sleep. Over all the whole weekend was a major success!
