30 Things: What’s your favorite holiday and why?

Today I am continuing my “30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me.”  You can see all 30 questions here.

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving

Maybe it’s because I was born on it.

I feel like it’s one of the only holidays that is stress free.  All you have to worry about is eating. No gifts and no decorating.  All I have to do is eat and remember what I am Thankful for.  There are no expectations with Thanksgiving except for good food, which my grandma never disappoints with!

Lakelyn and I both have birthdays in November. Fall is also my favorite season.  I love putting on jeans and a sweater and sitting outside feeling the cool breeze.

I am already itching for fall and will be so glad when this 90-100 degree heat is gone!

Lakelyn- 21 Months

When I first started this blog Lakelyn was 3 months old.  I did monthly updates which you can read here.

I haven’t done an update on Lakelyn recently and felt like one was due.  After all one of the main reasons I started this blog was for her to one day look back on.

Lakelyn Olivia

Age: 21 months or 1 year and 9 months

Weight: 23lbs

Favorite Color: Yellow- When she first started talking she would only say two colors, Yellow and Purple.  When you ask her what her favorite color is she will say yellow.  You ask her what color something is, it’s yellow.  You ask her what color of marker she wants to color with, it’s yellow.

Favorite Foods: Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, pizza, bananas, fruit snacks and fruit pouches.  When we are at our local Mexican restaurant she likes to dip her chips, she is a huge violator of double million dipping.  She now thinks anytime she has chips she needs to ask to “dip.”

Teeth: Lakelyn has 16 total teeth, 8 on top and 8 on bottom.  Teething has never really bothered Lakelyn up until the last 4, we have been extremely lucky! I think the last 4 that came in hurt her because it was 4 coming in all at once; it was her 4 canine teeth.  She was fussy, fever, got up 2-3 times a night and stopped eating.  After 2 ½ days she was back to her normal self.  All the other teeth she would be fussy and not eat as much but still slept through the night.

Favorite Toys: Currently Lakelyn likes to play with her Little People Animal Sounds Barn when we are at home.  She likes to bring the animals to you and tell you what sound they make.  On the go she likes an app we have on both our phone and tablet called, “Kids Songs.” The app was free to down load and came with 4 or 5 free songs like Old McDonald and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, they are short little songs around a min each.  Then we bought a package of I think 30 phonic songs which includes each letter of the alphabet and a few songs that include all the letters of the alphabet.  The songs include the letter, several words that start with that letter and the sound the letter makes.  Luke and I LOVE this app because she will actually pay attention to this app and it’s educational, BONUS!  Her favorite toy downstairs is her diner café she got from her great grandma!  Her favorite outdoor toys are her tricycle and swing.  She isn’t quite big enough for the tricycle yet but she likes to push it with her feet.

Bath Time:  Lakelyn LOVES her baths.  She will ask for one every night and anytime we take her in the bathroom to sit on her potty.  She likes to lay on her tummy and kick her feet, we call it swimming!

Favorite Books:  Lakelyn also loves her books and has to read one multiple each night before she goes to bed.  She grabs her blanky, milk and cuddles up on your lap.  Her favorites that we read every night are: Baby Colors, Big Red Barn, Baby Goofy Catches a Fish and Under the Sea.

Loves: Her blanket, she was never attached to anything as a baby but within the last few months she has 3 blankets we rotate but her favorite is a green and purple minky on one side and satin on the other side blanket.  She has to have it when she goes to sleep or when she doesn’t feel good.  As long as she doesn’t see it throughout the day she doesn’t need it.

Molly  aka Moo Moo- Lakelyn will wake up some mornings and call for her.  They really are best buds.  Lakelyn lays all over Molly, give her hugs and kisses, shares her food (even her cookies) and Lakelyn loves to lay in Molly’s bed with her.

Boxes-  Give the girl a box and it will keep her busy for at least 30 minutes.  She will open and close it, get inside of it, crawl through it, color on it, put her toys in it and much more.

Stickers- She loves stickers.  She peeled all the stickers off from under our table and chairs.

Dancing-  She is still a dancer! I hope this will stick with her.  When she hears music in a restaurant, TV commercial, radio or anywhere she can hear the beat she shakes her booty!

Zoo-  We have an annual membership to our local zoo so we visit often.  She loves to feed the goats and giraffes and see the elephants.

Lake- The lake experience is about 75/25.  It always starts off good but when it starts to get later in the evening around bed time she gets antsy and wants to walk around or take off her life jacket.  For the most part she does very well and if other kids are on the boat it keeps her entertained.

Lakelyn has a huge vocabulary, I am sure I will forget something!

Foto Friday! {link up}

This has been a crazy week!

First, last Friday my work computer crashed.  I do most of my post on my lunch break, therefore blogging this week was put on the back burner.  I finally got my computer back on Wednesday and am up and running!

Second, Molly our dog has had some major medical issues this week.  That’s a whole post on its own!  But she is better and back to her normal self!

Finally, Luke and I got new bedroom furniture and updated our laundry room!

Today, I am linking up again Sasha with The Mushy Mommy for Foto Friday!

I made Snickers dip for a pot luck and let Lakelyn lick the Cool Whip spoon!

Lakelyn has been giving lots of hugs lately!  I am taking them while I can!!

Lakelyn has decided that she wants to sit by herself in the boat instead of on someone’s lap.  She holds this box of crackers the whole time and does so well!   This makes lake trips so much more enjoyable!

We bought a new cube storage shelf to put in her room.  This way we got all the toys our of the living room!

This is our new dresser and bed for our bedroom.  I will take better pictures later.  I was so excited for them to finally get delivered; we ordered them 3 weeks ago.  Luke and I have been together for 10 years, live in our house for 6 years this Nov and this is our FIRST bedroom set, I LOVE IT!

All of my family is coming into town tonight to spend the weekend with us and I am super excited!

TGIF!!

30 Things: Describe 10 pet peeves you have

Today I am continuing my “30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me.”  You can see all 30 questions here.

Today's topic, Describe 10 pet peeves you have.

1. Hypocrites-  I hate people who either ask you not to do something but do it themselves or vice versa.  We have a neighbor who I have asked several times if she is going to leave her dog outside to bark to please put her in the back yard not on the front porch right next to my daughter’s bedroom.  Lakelyn wakes up every morning at 7:15am because of this damn dog barking.  However, the night before 4th of July she had the nerve to ask our other neighbors to not light fireworks off because her daughter was asleep, it was 8pm, her daughter is 7 years old, it’s the 4th of July (what do you expect), I would be more respectful if YOU WERE!

2.  When the towels are folded the wrong way, I can’t explain the right way I would have to show you.

3.  Luke NOT peeing in the toilet at night.  He doesn’t want to open his eyes because he thinks it will be harder for him to get back to sleep.  He gets most of it in the toilet but still splashes on the ring, EWW!  My theory, if it’s that important to keep your eyes closed then sit down and pee, I promise I won’t tell anyone and it won’t make you less of a man!

4.  Shoes- Take your shoes off when you come in my house!  I don’t walk in your house with my shoes on.  I am getting a little more relaxed on this one.  However, we have hard wood floors so if someone has a small rock on the bottom on their shoe and walks around it scratches our floors.  Plus I have a kid who plays on the floors you’re walking on with your dirty shoes.  And on that note, I have a kid so I don’t have time to vacuum after everyone who walks in with their shoes on! Oh, and don’t make fun of my “Please take your shoes off,” sign on the door.  If I came to your house and saw a sign that said “Please put this hat on before entering,” I may think it’s weird but if I wanted to come in I would put the hat on!

5.  When people complain about something they have control over.  Like when someone says I am tired of being fat but continues to eat like crap and not workout.  Or I am going to meet the love of my life after I lose weight but then they don’t do anything to lose weight and complain about how they are going to be single forever.  It’s not all about weight issues but those were on the top of my head.

6.  People who don’t control their children.  You better believe if we go out to eat and my child is getting antsy she will get a sucker to keep her quite. Probably not the correct way but I go out to eat to enjoy myself and so do others, so if it’s not Chuck E Cheese then I will do whatever it takes to make my child behave and not bother others.

7. Luke not cleaning up the messes he makes.  Anytime he makes something it’s as close to the edge of the counter as possible and of course gets on the floor.  When he makes a sandwich he of course doesn’t use a plate and gets crumbs everywhere. If there is a pan of brownies setting on the counter he will dig his fork right in instead of cutting one and putting it on a plate, again crumbs everywhere!  If you don’t want to eat over a plate then at least eat over the sink so I don’t have to clean up after you.

8.  Luke’s clothes in general. First of all he doesn’t take the hanger off the rack when he takes the shirt off; he just rips the shirt off the hanger and leaves it behind.  Leaving his belt on the kitchen counter and then walking into the bedroom to change. Leaving his clothes laying on the floor because “he is going to wear them again” and doesn’t. He doesn’t get rid of anything!  He has at least a decade of Old Chicago t-shirts and won’t get rid of one of them!

9.  Putting dirty dishes in the sink when the dishwasher is empty.  Is it really that hard to take one extra stop to your right and put your dish in the dishwasher?

10.  People who walk slowly or drive slowly and don’t allow you to get around them.  I know I am fast walker and like to get from A to B as fast as possible.  So if you are going to walk/drive slow (and maybe you don’t know you are a slow walker/driver) at least be aware of your surrounding and make room for others to get around you.

Although all of these are pet peeves of mine I have learned to “control” most of them.  I use to get really mad and irritated at Luke about the ones above I talked about but it didn’t do anything but cause friction in our relationship.  Most of them I just deal with and don’t even bring up anymore.  Are his clothes being on the floor really worth a fight, NO of course not!  That doesn’t mean that I never bring them up but I have learned to talk about them later then when it makes me mad.  And I know Luke is aware of what bothers me and does a lot better job then he used to.

30 Things: What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?

Today I am continuing my “30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me.”  You can see all 30 questions here.

What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?

Relationships

In today’s society gay marriage is a huge topic that I believe should not be an issue.   If two people fall in love they should be able to get married.  Why does it matter if they are both women and men?  I understand for religion purposes it may matter but as far as the government goes why are they allowed to control this?  I understand if a church does not want to allow two people of the same sex to get married under their roof, which is there right.
I would like to know if my daughter grew up and wanted to spend the rest of her life with a women that she could and it be recognized by the state.  That she is allowed all the benefits of being a married couple just as her mother and father did.  Why wouldn’t you want happiness for your child?  If living her life with another woman is what makes her happy then I am going to support it.  I would rather her spend the rest of her life with a women then marrying a man who she doesn’t fully love to only get a divorce a couple years later and who knows if there are children in between all of that to drag through the divorce.

I don’t believe people choose to be gay, I believe they are born this way.  Who chooses to be gay to live in a society where they don’t feel accepted or to grow up in school and be bullied?

I hope one day people will see that LOVE is LOVE and allow marriage to be between two people who love each other, no matter what the sex is of those two people.

Foto Friday

Today I am linking up with The Mushy Mommy for Foto Friday, a link up to show off your photos you have taken during the week.

Sunday night we gave Lakelyn a bath and she thought it was so funny to walk around with the towel on her head.  Not the best pictures because she was running around so fast but still super cute.

Monday morning I got back in the routine and went to the gym to work out.  Then Monday night came home and started T25, here are my calories burned from T25.  Tuesday night I wakeboard and now have a pinched nerve in my back that is STILL killing me.

This is Lakelyn and Luke on the tube Tuesday night, Lakelyn wanted nothing to do with it.

Wednesday night Lakelyn and daddy were getting ready for bed, Lakelyn likes to delay this process.   She pointed out all her body parts and when she got to her belly button daddy tickled her.

This picture melts my heart!

30 Things: List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could

To continue with “30 Things my Kids Should Know About Me”, here are 10 things I would tell myself when I was 16, if I could. It was hard only listing 10!

1.         Your mom is not your enemy and will become one of your best friends when you are older.  And that mean step dad of yours, he loves you and one day you will see he only wants what’s best for you.

2.         Boyfriends will come and go but girlfriends will last a lifetime.  Focus more on your friendships then your boyfriends.

3.         Learn how to study properly; you are going to need it in college.

4.         You are going to love being a mother and it will be one of the proudest moments in your life.

5.         Don’t be so disrespectful to your parents; you will regret it when you get older.

6.         Start exercising.  Your metabolism will crash when you get to college and you will soon learn that you can’t eat and drink everything you want and still not gain weight.

7.         Stop tanning outside and in booths, the risk of getting cancer is NOT worth it.

8.         That boy you are dating, get rid of him FAST! Your relationship with him is not healthy and nothing but bad comes out of it, he doesn’t deserve you.

9.         Spend more time with your family, as you get older they become more important.

10.      You’re going to meet the love of your life in a couple years that will also be the father to your children, be nice to him!
