Wedding Ceremony

After pictures we headed to the venue to touch up and get ready for the ceremony.  Our ceremony and reception were held in the same place.  Our ceremony began at 4pm and lasted about 30-35 minutes.

During our ceremony instead of doing a traditional lighting of a unity candle or sand ceremony we performed a wine box ceremony.  A lot of people had never heard or seen this before.

You and your spouse to be pick out a bottle of wine together.  You then write letters to each other that you do not share and place them in a sealed envelope.  You write to each other the reasons you feel in love, what you love about each other and your hopes for the future.  You place the bottle of wine and the letters into a sealed box.  At this point we locked our box with two locks on each side of the box.

On your 5th wedding anniversary you open the box, drink the wine and read each other’s letters.  Then you replenish the box with new letters, the old letters and a new bottle of wine.  You continue this every 5 years.  BUT if at any time your marriage faces hardship, you open the box at that time and are reminded of why you feel in love.  The hope is that you will only need to open this box every 5 years.

We had several people come up to us after the ceremony and compliment us on this part of the wedding.  They thought it was a really neat idea.

Up next….…the reception!
